Tri-x are for kids

As the new year approached I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how I could better myself in 2011.  I already quit smoking, drinking, farting, burping, shooting zooms and masturbating so what the hell is left?  Then it hit me like a subtle ton of bricks.  What I needed was a photographic resolution.  Something that will better me as a photographer not better me as a person.  If you wanna find out what the hell I’m talkin about then follow the yellow brick road.

00L: A Field Review of the Voigtlander Bessa L

November 26, 2010 2 comments

I have named the Voigtlander Bessa L OOL because if James Bond was a lomo photographer this is the camera Q would hook him up with. Not because this is a small crappy plastic camera but because the Bessa L is a small clever camera. This camera is so clever because it’s so simple. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this camera it’s a Leica rangefinder meets a Holga and it packs what we like most about the two together.

What wasn’t announced at Photokina

October 18, 2010 Leave a comment

Prime Time Crew couldn’t make it to Photokina this year because frankly we don’t give a shit and the more we shoot the more we learn that all the good shit was made thirty years ago. However, PTC does keep it’s ear to the ground and our voice in the community. While there was some notable announcements, like the Fuji X100, a couple Panasonic primes, and a few Nikon primes, PTC isn’t satisfied and neither are you. Here is what should have been announced at Photokina:

We confirmed it first! Samyang 35mm f1.4

You might recall that we interviewed Steve Schneider of Samyang earlier this year and he confirmed for us that this lens was inevitable.  Availability and price will be announced at the end of the month.   It’s manual focus only but it’s a great alternative to the higher priced competitors.  After all, one prime is better than two zooms.  Specs to follow.

King Normal

September 15, 2010 1 comment

After realizing it’s terrible mistake in the P7000 Nikon has given us something to really get excited about.  After many years an updated version of Nikon’s AIS 35mm f1.4  is available.  The arrival of the AF-S 35mm f1.4 means a couple of things.  First,  Nikon has solidified it’s position in the pro market by providing a fast, sharp prime it the normal range.  Second, prices on the AIS 35mm f1.4 should drop slightly.  If your not opposed to manually focusing that would be a great lens to add to your collection.  Furthermore why buy the 24-70mm when you could have the 24mm f1.4, the 35mm f1.4 and the 85mm f1.4 and actually get sharp pictures.  Specs of the new king normal to follow.
